SkillSkate - CPSC's "PowR Program"
Started in our 2019/2020 Season, we are excited to evolve this great program for our CPSC participants that are focused on hockey, ringette and speed skating.
SkillSkate is an action-packed, high energy instructional skill skating program geared to hockey, ringette, and speed skaters that focuses on balance, control, agility, speed and endurance. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations.
SkillSkate provides an alternative to figure skating and is an excellent complement for those athletes playing on hockey or ringette teams or training speedskating. Its unique skill award program provides incentives and motivation for skaters to continue to achieve.
Girls and Boys aged approximately 6 to 12 who already have basic forward and backward skating skills (they must be able to skate the length of the rink using alternate strides) and are able to stop on command without use of the boards are accepted into this program.
Equipment required for this session;
We recommend warm pants, a sweater and/or a tight-fitting jacket. Skaters can wear either winter gloves or hockey / ringette gloves and a CSA approved helmet with visor. While participants do not require any other equipment, it can be worn if they choose. Sticks are not required and will not be permitted on the ice.
