Pre-Junior Program

A fully coached bridge from CanSkate to STARSkate, designed to help developing skaters build confidence, technique and a strong foundation in figure skating.

Qualifications

Skaters at this level are working on CanSkate Stages 4, 5 and 6.

A Comfortable Next Step

CPSC coaches recognize that moving from CanSkate to STARSkate, the first level of figure skating, can be a significant jump in skill level. The Pre-Junior Program was introduced to make that transition more comfortable for skaters.

This fully coached program is designed for skaters who have completed CanSkate Stage 3 or higher. It introduces basic figure skating skills and movement, including a first stroking session and opportunities to skate alongside others developing figure skating skills.

The upbeat environment helps skaters transition with confidence. Rotated groups also give skaters the opportunity to work with different coaches throughout their sessions.

On-Ice and Off-Ice Training

The off-ice training program is a comprehensive dry-land program that incorporates fitness training, flexibility, off-ice jumps, conditioning, music, rhythm and dance appreciation.

It also supports each skater’s work ethic, goal setting, technique, teamwork and overall skating education. This training is important for skaters who want to maximize their potential.

Spring and Summer off-ice training: Please bring a water bottle and wear running shoes.

Safety and Helmet Guidance

Skaters working on CanSkate Stage 6 and higher are no longer required to wear a CSA-approved helmet; however, the final decision rests with the parent or guardian.

Supervision requirement: A parent, guardian or designated adult must remain in the arena at all times during the session for any skater aged 12 and under.

Adult Skaters

Adults at this level may be identified for the Adult/Teen STARSkate Program. For an assessment, email cpskatingclub@gmail.com for the attention of the Technical Director.
