Pre-Junior Program
Qualifications: Skaters at this level are working on Canskate levels 4, 5 and 6.
NOTE: Skaters previously registered in the CPSC Advanced CanSkate program should register for the Pre-Junior Program.
CPSC Coaches recognized that moving from CanSkate to STARSkate (the first level of figure skating) requires a big jump in skill level. The Pre-Junior Program was introduced to make this transition more comfortable for the skater.
This Pre-Junior Program is designed to work with skaters who have completed CanSkate Stage 3 or higher and to introduce them to basic figure skating skills and movement. They will be involved in this program's first "stroking" session and will experience an opportunity to skate with others doing figure skating skills.
The upbeat environment is excellent for helping skaters transition more comfortably, and rotated groups mean your skaters will get various coaches each day they skate.
The Pre-Junior program is recommended as a 2-day-a-week program to see maximum results, but 1-day memberships are accepted if space allows. Any CanSkater showing advanced skills may be identified for this program.
Pre-Junior sessions are fully coached and include off-ice training before skating on the ice.
The off-ice training program is a comprehensive dry-land program that incorporates fitness training, flexibility, off-ice jumps, conditioning, as well as a music, rhythm and dance appreciation program. It also further develops each skater's work ethic, goal setting, technique, teamwork and overall skating education. This program is essential for those skaters wishing to maximize themselves to their full potential. Skaters are to bring a yoga mat and water bottle to off-ice training.
ADULTS: Adults at this level may be identified for this program. For an assessment, please email cpskatingclub@gmail.com, attention: Technical Director.
